Our History
Family owned and operated since 1956
Woodhouse Removals was founded in 1956 by Jim Woodhouse in Devonport, Tasmania. “Jim Woodhouse, General Carrier Devonport”, was well-known for no-fuss moving and professionalism in an industry that has been tarnished by careless removalists in times-past.
The one-ute business soon grew to include a truck. Jim ran the business in Davenport for 23 years.
Moving up the coast
Looking for a sea change, Jim, wife Rita, and their three children moved to sunny Broadbeach, Gold Coast, in 1979. Entering the Gold Coast removals market in 1979 came with its fair share of trials and tribulations. However, the Woodhouse’s enduring work ethic and friendly nature persevered.
This move proved to be instrumental in building solid foundations for what the business is today.
A new era
In 2007 Jim and Rita sold the prosperous business to their son, Peter, and wife, Kim. Peter and Kim continue in the family tradition of providing careful, courteous service and a reputation based on trust, integrity, and good old fashioned values.
All staff are AFRA trained
AFRA is the official Australian Government body of removals experts that regulates the removals industry and its members. AFRA accredits only those removalists that have the necessary equipment, vehicles, premises, integrity and staff training needed to complete a professional move. AFRA members carry Public Liability Insurance and are authorised to provide Transit Insurance for all goods and effects being moved. Learn more.
